The Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia, Queensland (IPWEAQ) and ARRB Group have this month signed a memorandum of understanding in which they will seek to transfer best practice transport and road management knowledge to their members and the broader industry in Queensland.
IPWEAQ Chief Executive Officer Leigh Cunningham said in a statement that asset management was high on the radar for the newly formed partnership.
“One of the key elements to maximising the effective life of our transport infrastructure is assessing the condition of components such as road pavements and structures,” she said.
“By collecting and interpreting data in an accurate and consistent way, the asset owner is able to prioritise spending in the areas most needed.
“To achieve this outcome, workers must have the requisite knowledge and skills, an understanding of the whole asset lifecycle and how the work they do contributes to and influences the work of others.”
Improving industry standards through boosting knowledge and competency is the goal for IPWEAQ and ARRB, which will work together to provide training participants with industry expertise.
Ms. Cunningham said engagement with local councils and road and transport authorities would be critical to the partnership’s success.
“We will devote time and energy to engaging with local councils and road and transport authorities to identify what areas of improvement are required to deliver the project standards and levels of service expected by the community,” she said.
“Once we understand any workplace or professional deficiencies, we will develop training that will deliver those outcomes in practice long after the training has concluded.”
Ms. Cunningham said the organisation was excited about working closely with ARRB.
