Joint Venture progressing on $80M New England Highway upgrade

Work is progressing on the upgrade of the New England Highway at Bolivia Hill with the Joint Venture starting on the second stage of the road bridge.

The Georgiou, SRG Joint Venture have begun the construction of the second pier to support the road across a 320 metre cantilever bridge.

Slope and stabilisation work was completed earlier this year on the eastern side of the highway. The first pier has been completed and formwork is in place which will allow the construction of the cantilever bridge segments to start.

Water is being sourced for the concrete from a private bore hole near the site and is being reused wherever possible to reduce usage.

Excavation work is now nearing completion on the eastern side of the highway to make way for wider lanes and road shoulders.

Transport for NSW Director Northern Region Anna Andrews said the project remains on track for completion by the end of 2020.

“The improvement of this essential link for heavy vehicles will allow local producers to safely and reliably transport their goods to market, while also improving safety and efficiency levels for all road users,” she said.

In the time being, the New England Highway will continue to be reduced to one lane at Bolivia Hill.
