With the pressures of rapid population growth, two new Victorian suburbs have been commissioned. Danielle Green, Labor Member for Yan Yean, Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Vitoria, Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism & Major Projects, will give project updates and overviews. The new suburbs will fall under the City of Whittlesea. The council aims to create a diverse community with brand new facilities. Once completed the two suburbs will encompass 17,000 new homes, 2100 jobs, six government schools, 4 non-government schools, 5 town centres and 46 hectares of parkland. New residents of Donnybrook and Woostock are estimated to start moving into their new homes mid-2019.

At the Conference, the $5.5 billion West Gate Tunnel Project will be presented on by David Clements, Transurban’s Program Director of Major Projects Victoria. The tunnel will provide an alternative route to the West Gate Bridge, and will give commuters travelling to and from the west a more streamlined journey. The project includes widening the existing West Gate Freeway from 8 to twelve lanes, a tunnel from Maribyrnong to Port of Melbourne, a connecting bridge over the Maribyrnong River and state-of-the-art technological solutions connecting the corridor to other road systems across the city.

Peter Wilkinson, Director of Delivery and Development Melbourne Metro Rail Authority (MMRA), will be outlining the latest project updates on Melbourne’s $11 billion Metro Tunnel Project. The development will create 5 new stations, including Arden, Parkville, CBD North, CBD South and Domain. Aimed to free up space on the city loop, the project will see better accessibility to fringe city attractions, a 27 per cent increased capacity on the Craigieburn line, 45 per cent more capacity at peak times on the Craigieburn/ Pakenham line, 15 per cent increased capacity on the Frankston line, 48 per cent increased capacity in peak times on the Sandringham line, 60 per cent peak time capacity increase on the Sunbury line, a 71 per cent increase on the Upfield line and 24 per cent more capacity during peak times on the Werribee/ Williamstown line.

When completed, the M-City project is estimated to be Melbourne’s largest mixed-use development out of the CBD. Located in Clayton, the $1 billion project will include 4 main buildings – hotel, residential, retail and offices, 10 floors, 460 total dwellings with 225 hotel rooms and 189 served apartments, a retail area, serviced offices and rooftop garden and facilities. The project aims to create a mini-city, and be first of its kind in the area. Andrew Mackenzie, Director of Buchan Group, will be discussing M-City projects updates.
