Komatsu Australia is upgrading its expansive product range to support growth across both domestic and international markets.
Across all heavy industries, compliance is critical. Companies operating in a specific jurisdiction need to adhere to its legal, regulatory, environmental and safety standards so that all stakeholders involved in high-risk activity – from workers and manufacturers to property and habitats – are protected.
This can prove challenging for companies when their operations are spread out across different markets and customers, and thus need to follow different sets of requirements. In these instances, businesses need to be versatile, adapting their product offerings to meet various sets of stringent rules.
Komatsu has been practicing this for some time.
The multinational corporation was established in Japan in 1917 as an equipment manufacturer for mining and machinery tools, and spent the next century developing products for the sheet-forming, agriculture, hydraulics, utility, construction and quarry industries.

Global expansion followed, leading the business to come to Australia in 1965. Here, operational versatility remains embedded in the business.
“We create value together by working in partnership with our customers, people, and communities to build a safer, and more sustainable future,” says Mark Boyes, National Business Development Manager – Construction at Komatsu Australia. “Our client base ranges from owner operators to multinational corporations, all with unique needs.
“We are continually innovating and diversifying our product range to support and adapt to a wide range of applications and customer’s needs. This is particularly important as Komatsu Australia services many territories.”
The purview of Komatsu Australia extends to key international markets – New Zealand, New Caledonia and Papua New Guinea following entity mergers and acquisitions. Boyes explains that each country has unique requirements that pose specific challenges, limiting what equipment could be supported.

However, the introduction of several new, non-tier 4 heavy equipment models has enhanced Komatsu Australia’s construction equipment offering. These models are being rolled out with the goal to better support all Oceanic markets.
“Traditional markets historically have had limited access to heavy equipment with enhanced capability such as integrated machine control,” Boyes says. “With the introduction of the non-tier 4 models we can now work towards an enhanced model offering across our region that will open each market to a higher level of technology not traditionally available.”
Komatsu Australia’s product enhancements are a direct result of the company’s deep expertise to engineer systems that can adapt to the local markets’ requirements, whilst increasing reliability, reducing downtime and lowering overall maintenance costs.
“We’re keeping the chassis and core components of these non-tier 4 machines the same as their tier 4 equivalent model,” Boyes says, “but are ultimately simplifying the aftermarket systems so that they have no requirement for Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), or AdBlue, as it’s commonly known.”

The company recently introduced the refined, AdBlue-free version of its PC138US-11 excavator. The machine is well-suited to civil construction, general earthworks, and utilities, combining strong digging performance with a compact short tail swing design, enabling efficient operations in tighter working environments.
Meanwhile, a similarly updated WA380-8 wheel loader has also been released. The machine is ideal for a wide range of general-purpose loading and handling applications, including concrete batch work, log handling, waste and recycling, and more. The equipment is also fitted with the company’s remote monitoring and location system as standard.
Boyes says these machines will accelerate developments in both domestic and international markets.
Several new non-tier 4 models will be introduced across Komatsu Australia’s markets throughout 2026. Boyes and his team are excited to usher customers into the newest generation of technology and efficiency.
“We want customers to be able to access the latest machines without any compromises,” he says. “Our move to enhance our product range with both tier 4 and non-tier 4 machines will ensure that this goal is possible.”
