Locals are invited to have their say on the first six-kilometre section of the Princes Highway upgrade between Jervis Bay Road and Sussex Inlet Road to help progress a safer, more reliable journey for all motorists across the route in New South Wales.
The Princes Highway between Jervis Bay Road and Sussex Inlet Road is currently an undivided road, with one lane in each direction providing limited overtaking opportunities and significant increases in traffic volumes during peak tourist periods.
The proposed upgrades will aim to provide a safer corridor for all transport users and support increased capacity and traffic efficiency.
NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said community feedback would help shape plans for the upgrade to ensure shovels hit the ground as soon as possible.
“We’ve confirmed that Stage One will follow the strategic corridor we displayed late last year so now we’re pushing ahead with consultation and environmental studies to minimise impacts and finalise the location and features of this priority section,” Toole said.
State Member for South Coast Shelley Hancock said the NSW Government is taking the time to listen to locals to ensure they get the upgrades that meet their needs now and into the future.
“There are key areas where the community is encouraged to share their views, such as public and active transport options and how the highway upgrade can support the social and economic activity of the surrounding area,” Hancock said.
Feedback will be considered as part of the concept design and environmental assessment for the highway upgrade between Jervis Bay Road and Hawken Road.
The Federal Government has committed $400 million and the NSW Government will contribute $100 million to the Jervis Bay Road to Hawken Road upgrade.
Community feedback is invited until Sunday, 19 December 2021.
