Work to complete the transformation of President Avenue in Kogarah, New South Wales, will continue after an agreement was reached between Transport for NSW and the M6 Stage 1 contractor.
The project’s design and construct contractor CGU, which comprises CPB Contractors, Ghella, and UGL, will complete surface works in Kogarah and Rockdale.
This will include finishing road works on President Avenue, Princes Highway and surrounding streets, completing the majority of the five kilometres of shared pedestrian and cyclist pathways, and revitalising some of the surrounding public parklands.
The agreement with CGU to complete surface work will be funded from within the project budget of $3.1 billion. This work is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
Transport for NSW has also reached an agreement with CGU to continue to maintain the security and safety of the tunnels and tunnelling construction sites for the next three months while technical and commercial assessments continue.
Since main construction began in January 2022, the project has progressed with nearly 90 per cent of the M6 tunnels excavated and close to half of the road pavement laid.

The M6 Stage 1 project will deliver the missing link from Sydney’s south to the wider Sydney motorway network.
It will remove more than 2000 trucks a day from surface roads and help return local streets to local communities.
Josh Murray, Secretary for Transport for NSW, said finishing the areas – including surface roadworks, new walking and cycling links and parklands – will be a priority.
“This agreement will also allow Transport for NSW to continue work on a solution that will lead to tunnelling being completed, while the contractor continues to play its role in securing the construction site,” said Murray.
Terry Sleiman, Executive Project Director at CPB Contractors, said the phase is a vital part of the project.
