The New South Wales Government has announced that the contract for works to deliver the new South West Active Transport Link – a substantial active transport project – is now open to market for tender.
The South West Active Transport Link, or SWATL (also known as the ‘MetroWay’), will run the full length of the Southwest extension of the M1 line (Sydney Metro City & Southwest). This extension involves upgrading and converting the existing 130-year-old T3 Bankstown railway line between Sydenham and Bankstown to modern metro standards.

As part of this project, a brand new 1200-square-metre plaza has been opened at Dulwich Hill Station, which features sandstone seating, new lighting and landscaping, creating a safe, accessible and welcoming place for the community to enjoy.

The SWATL will run alongside this new plaza and connect a number of other new metro stations, providing a total of 13.8 kilometres of new and shared path that will also intersect with other existing and planned cycling networks.
SWATL will include trees, integrated public art, rest stops, lighting, as well as 350 bike parking spaces.
The contract for these works is now out for tender. Expectations are that the contract will be awarded by the end of the year. The project is due for completion by the end of 2028.
