Major construction now complete at Parkville Station

Major construction works are now complete at Parkville Station, the second of five new state-of-the-art stations to be finished as part of the Metro Tunnel.

When the Metro Tunnel opens in 2025 the Sunbury, Cranbourne and Pakenham lines will run through new tunnels under Melbourne’s CBD. The five new stations at Parkville, Arden, State Library, Town Hall and Anzac.

The Parkville Station includes entrances directly outside the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and The University of Melbourne. It also has a 44m-long pedestrian underpass beneath Royal Parade to make crossing the road easier and safer.

The new station provides a direct train connection to the area for the first time and will relieve pressure on local trams and roads.

Following the completion of major construction, focus will shift to fit out, testing and commissioning of the station, including station entrances, chiller plant and the tunnel ventilation shafts.

This includes residual reinstatement and public realm works, including landscaping, as well as the demobilisation of the Grattan Street east site.
