Major contractor begins two Australian regional road projects

The South Gippsland Highway Upgrade between Koonwarra and Meeniyan in Victoria and the Mackay Northern Access Upgrade in Queensland have chosen the same major contractor for construction.

The projects with a total worth of $164 million in revenue have been awarded to CPB Contractors who have now begun construction on both projects.

The South Gippsland Highway Upgrade will see the road realigned between Koonwarra and Meeniyan with nine sharp bends removed and roadside barriers installed to significantly improve driver safety.

The realignment of the highway will reduce its length in one section from 3.4 kilometres to 2.3 kilometres.

Funded by the Federal and Victorian Governments the project will aim to improve driver safety and provide reliable journeys for commuters.

The Mackay Northern Access Upgrade in Queensland will improve traffic efficiency by creating additional capacity north of Mackay. This upgrade will aim to keep pace with population growth and increased traffic volumes in the coming years.

Both projects are now underway and are scheduled for completion in 2022.

CPB Contractors Managing Director Diego Zumaquero said CPB Contractors continues to play a key role in delivering vital infrastructure for regional communities across Australia.

“We’re committed to working closely with local communities and the governments of Victoria and Queensland to deliver these important upgrades safely and efficiently,” Mr. Zumaquero said.
