Major JV reach milestone on Princes Highway upgrades

The Downer and Seymour Whyte joint venture have installed the first bridge girders on the Berry to Bomaderry Princes Highway upgrade.

All of the 109-tonne girders were made using local steel to support local employment.

The 100 metre long girders will make up the first of two bridges, linking Pestells Land and Meroo Road.

The bridges will aim to provide safe access for residents entering onto the Princes Highway and allows motorists to safely travel over the highway.

Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said the $450 million project would improve traffic flow, and deliver safer and more reliable journeys for those moving around the region.

“The Berry to Bomaderry upgrade will deliver a minimum four-lane divided route from Sydney to south of Nowra,” Mr. Toole said.

Once complete the project will mark the upgrade of more than 30 kilometres of highway between Gerringong and Bomaderry.

Once the girders are in place, there will be a number of partial closures of the Princes Highway at night until 19 December. Alternating traffic conditions will be in place while workers weld girder segments together and install the bridge walkways.

Major work on the Berry to Bomaderry upgrade will shut down over the peak holiday period between 20 December 2019 and 6 January 2020.
