End-to-end tunnel testing will shortly begin between the Sunbury and Cranbourne/Pakenham lines, in what will be a major milestone for the Metro Tunnel project in Victoria.
This will mark the first day that the tunnel’s new systems and infrastructure is tested over the length of a full day, which will evaluate the performance of turn-up-and-go services.
The testing, which will take place on Saturday June 21, will help to make sure that one of the new Metro Tunnel paths doesn’t then impact a V/Line or freight service.

This extensive testing has been earmarked as crucial to ensuring that the new infrastructure, systems and processes are safe and ready for passenger services when the Metro Tunnel opens later this year.
Passengers heading to and from the city will need to change to a different service as part of their journey to enable test trains to run through the Metro Tunnel without passengers. More information on passenger changes will be available from Metro Trains and on the PTV website closer to the day to help you plan your journey.
