Victoria’s Big Build has begun significant work on the Metro Tunnel at South Yarra to continue over the summer period.
Major road projects in Melbourne’s west and tram stop upgrades along Nicholson Street are also underway.
Construction crews will be working until the end of January to excavate the final section of the Metro Tunnel entrance and make room for the new track which will connect the existing lines to the tunnel.
Major concreting works at the tunnel entrance will also be completed, including pouring the final sections of the tunnel roof slab and installing the tunnel support structures.
Buses are replacing trains on the Cranbourne Pakenham and Frankston lines between Flinders Street and Caulfield Station until 31 January to accommodate works.
Part of Nicholson Street will be closed to trams and traffic until 19 January to build six new accessible tram stops.
The intersection of Fitzgerald and Dohertys roads in Laverton North is also closed to enable crews to rebuild the intersection, lay new asphalt and install traffic signals as part of the Western Roads Upgrade.
In addition to current projects, major works will increase on the West Gate Tunnel project on January 13th. Ramps over the West Gate Freeway will be closed and rebuilt to prepare for the widening of the Westgate Freeway from eight to 12 lanes.
