Major construction is underway to remove three bayside level crossings and build a new Mordialloc Station in Victoria.
Crews are working to build foundations for the new rail bridges set to replace level crossings at McDonald Street, Mordialloc and Station Street, Aspendale.
Signalling infrastructure and boom gates at Bear Street, Mordialloc will also be dismantled, with the road remaining permanently closed to traffic at the former level crossing to maintain access to the nearby train stabling facility and create space for the new station precinct under the rail bridge.
Mordialloc will be boom gate free and the new elevated Mordialloc Station will open in 2026, featuring modern facilities and improved accessibility, including entrances at both ends of the platforms, improved lighting, public spaces and landscaping with 86,000 trees, shrubs and grasses.

More than 26,000 vehicles travel through these three level crossings every day where the boom gates can be down more than 40 minutes of the morning peak. There have been 12 near misses and one fatality at these crossings since 2016.
The Frankston Line is expected to be level crossing free by 2029.
In total, the Victorian Government is removing 110 level crossings across Melbourne by 2030 under the Level Crossing Removal Project, one of the largest rail infrastructure projects in the state’s history. So far 87 have been removed.
The project has made Victorian roads safer by preventing 111 crashes and near misses every year and has slashed travel times in the morning by saving 55 hours of boom gate down time, according to the State Government.
