METRONET has released the Morley Station Precinct Concept Master Plan, envisioning a vibrant urban village with the future Morley Station at its heart.

Morley Station is located within the Tonkin Highway median under the Broun Avenue bridge and will connect passengers to the Morley Galleria shopping precinct, surrounding businesses, and the local community through frequent bus services.

The finalised Concept Master Plan is a blueprint for the long-term urban renewal around the future station over the next 30 years. It details how safe routes for walking and bike riding, improvements to open space areas and development along Walter Road West and Broun Avenue will support key connections to Morley Galleria.

Central to it will be the $1.1 billion METRONET Morley-Ellenbrook Line and the new, Broun Avenue bridge, currently under construction, as part of the new Morley Station.

At more than 60 metres wide, it will be one of the widest road and bus interchange bridges in Perth. It has been built with 26 T-Roff beams, manufactured locally in Hazelmere, measuring almost 40 metres in length and weighing around 170 tonnes each.

Work has also begun on the tunnel where the new Morley-Ellenbrook line will divert from the existing Midland Line. The tunnel will allow the new train line to dive underneath the Tonkin Highway northbound lane, emerging in the centre median where it will then travel to train stations further north and to Ellenbrook.

More than 1,000 piles have been installed for the works with pile capping for the beams underway. A total of around 500 tonnes of locally supplied steel reinforcement is required to complete this work.

WA Premier Mark McGowan said the Morley-Ellenbrook Line works were taking place across multiple fronts, particularly along Tonkin Highway and at Broun Avenue bridge.

“Not only do projects like the Morley-Ellenbrook Line and Tonkin Gap Project support thousands of jobs during construction, the new stations, like Morley Station, will support jobs in the future as the local areas develop over time,” the Premier said.

“The construction of the rail line to Ellenbrook is tracking along as planned and is set to be completed in 2024,” he added.

The 21-kilometre Morley-Ellenbrook Line starts at Bayswater Station on the Midland Line, passes the centre of Tonkin Highway, through land north of Marshall Road, along the western side of Drumpellier Drive and ends in Ellenbrook, south of The Parkway.

The Western Australian Government has selected MELconnx Consortium, led by Laing O’Rourke Australia Construction and comprising UK-based engineering firm Arup, as the preferred proponent to design and construct the METRONET Morley-Ellenbrook rail line.
