Milestone for $59M Queensland station upgrade

Milestone for $59M Queensland station upgrades

Works on accessibility upgrades to the Bundamba station in Queensland are now  officially on track and well underway, with the first sod now turned on the project.

The major upgrade will deliver an accessibility improved train station by late 2024, making catching a train easier for everybody, especially those using wheelchairs, pushing prams or carrying heavy luggage.

When completed, commuters will be able to use a lift to the station overpass to move between the platforms, which will be fully raised to reduce the gap, making boarding a train safer and easier for all customers.

Other improvements include upgraded customer facilities like accessible toilets, disability-compliant ticket windows, improved seating, extended platform shelters, improved bicycle storage and new security cameras.

The project has also seen the use of a ‘first of its kind’ temporary rail overpass over the train tracks, helping to maintain cross-corridor access for the community as works progress on the station.

Works on the project will now turn to the demolition of platform awnings and shelters.

Bundamba MP Lance McCallum said works on the station, which has serviced the community since 1878, would result in better public transport services for the region.

“This major upgrade to our local station is a huge boost to our community and with the ‘sod turned’ we can officially mark the first step in a very important journey for better accessibility and inclusivity for local train commuters,” McCallum said.

Works on the station form part of the Station Accessibility Upgrade Program, which will deliver upgrades to the Bundamba, Lindum, Morningside, Buranda, Banyo, and Burpengary stations.
