Over 280 roads will receive funding for upgrades under the 2025-26 Black Spot Program, an annual works package supported by the Federal Government.
Black Spot projects target dangerous road locations where crashes are occurring or are at risk of occurring.
The program provides funding for measures such as traffic signals and roundabouts, again aiming to reduce the risk of crashes. The Federal Government’s commitment to the program currently stands at $150 million annually.
The 284 projects are situated across Western Australia, Victoria, Tasmania, Queensland, South Australia and New South Wales.
On average, 50 per cent of Black Spot funding goes towards addressing dangerous roads in regional Australia.

The Black Spot Program’s process begins with applicable roads being selected by the Black Spot Consultative Panel in each state.
Anyone can nominate a Black Spot for consideration, including individuals, community groups and local councils. On receipt of a completed Black Spot nomination form, the relevant state and territory transport agency will examine the nominated site’s eligibility and may undertake an economic assessment of a treatment proposal.
Nominations are considered annually by consultative panels in each state and territory, who recommend projects for approval by the responsible minister. The Panels are chaired by a member of parliament or senator. Panels are comprised of local stakeholders who are best placed to ensure nominations of the highest priority and importance are recommended for approval.
