Motorists now travelling on new Pacific Highway lane at Pimlico

Five kilometres of new single lane highway has opened at Pimlico as part of the Woolgoolga to Ballina Pacific Highway upgrade.

Drivers can now travel on one lane of the new southbound carriageway while work continues of the rest of the upgrade.

Transport for NSW Director Northern Region Anna Andrews said people can now experience a safer, smoother journey on the road.

“This marks a busy period of traffic changes with 1.5 kilometres of dual carriageway recently opened further north,” Ms. Andrews said.

As part of the latest changes Whytes overpass bridge has opened to traffic.

“Whytes Lane is the third and final overpass bridge to open between Broadwater and Pimlico, with overpasses at Wardell and Coolgardie opening to traffic earlier this year,” Ms. Andrews said.

The Australian and NSW governments are jointly funding the $4.95 billion Woolgoolga to Ballina Pacific Highway upgrade on a 80:20 basis.

The overall project will construct 155 kilometres of four-lane divided highway between the Arrawarra Interchange in the south and the Ballina bypass in the north.

Major construction commenced on June 2015 and is expected to be complete by 2020.
