The National Precast concrete Association Australia shines a light on Ozcast’s latest works on Sydney’s new speedway.

The Sydney International Speedway is a state-of-the-art motorsport venue located in Eastern Creek, Sydney. Built to replace the old speedway at Clyde, which was demolished to make way for the Sydney Metro West project, the new venue is far from being merely a replacement. It elevates motorsport in Australia by offering world-class facilities, setting new industry standards as it hosts both national and international events.

When the New South Wales Government announced an ambitious opening date for the new venue, it ignited a race against time.

The project reflected a balance between speed and precision.

Completion of the project was a linchpin for the Metro Project’s beginning, with Abergeldie Contractors being awarded the monumental task of constructing the speedway under an ambitious timeline, with every tick of the clock bringing the deadline closer.

Adapting to tight timelines

Faced with the pressure of tight schedules, National Precast member Ozcast stepped in to supply the essential precast concrete elements for the speedway’s infrastructure. Traditional precast production relies on steel moulds, but fabricating these would have consumed precious time, which the precast manufacturer didn’t have.

Demonstrating its adaptability, Ozcast shifted to conventional formwork methods. Although more labour-intensive, this approach allowed for quicker setup and turnaround, aligning perfectly with the project’s urgent demands.

Switching to conventional formwork wasn’t without its challenges. The process required meticulous attention to detail to ensure that the high standards of material quality were upheld, something the precast manufacturer is renowned for.

Ozcast’s team doubled down on its efforts, balancing speed with precision. A commitment to excellence ensured that, despite the accelerated pace and increased labour demands, the integrity of the precast elements remained uncompromised.

Despite shorter and demanding deadlines, all precast elements supplied for the project were of upmost quality.

Excellence under pressure

Thanks to the dedication and swift action of the precaster’s team, the required precast concrete elements were delivered on schedule. This achievement was pivotal in allowing the Sydney International Speedway to become operational as planned, enabling the Sydney Metro line work to begin without delay.

The successful completion of the speedway highlights the power of collaboration. The state-of-the-art facility not only showcases Ozcast’s prowess but also the collective effort of Abergeldie Contractors and all stakeholders involved. Together, they have contributed a landmark venue to Sydney’s landscape, setting new standards in motorsport infrastructure.
