Work is now underway on the second stage of Bendigo Airport’s redevelopment which involves the construction of a new runway.
The $14.7 million runway will service emergency and air transport services at the airport. It will be 1600 metres in length and 30 metres wide, allowing the regional Victorian airport to cater to greater capacity planes.
BMD Constructions Pty Ltd has been awarded the tender to deliver this second stage of the redevelopment.
The upgrade also includes improvements to lighting, taxiways and associated infrastructure at the airport.
The Bendigo Airport redevelopment project is one of more than 160 infrastructure projects in regional and rural communities under the $1 billion National Stronger Regions Fund.
The first stage of the redevelopment involved the construction of 25 new hangers, three new taxiways, critical drainage infrastructure and better road access to the airport.
The third and final stage of the project will focus on the construction of a contemporary business park to allow for existing businesses to expand and new businesses to be established.
The runway upgrade is due for completion in mid-2017.
