Georgiou has announced the appointment of new Engineering General Manager Simon Welfare.

Georgiou Chief Executive Officer Rob Monaci welcomed the appointment and said Mr. Welfare would be supported by Construction Director Peter Hopfmueller during the transition.

“Mr. Welfare joins the company from Laing O’Rourke, where he has spent the past four years as General Manager of their Western Region operations across Western Australia and the Northern Territory,” Mr. Monaci said.

“In recent years Mr. Welfare’s experience extends to the successful delivery of major liquified natural gas projects such as Gorgon, Wheatstone and Ichthys along with major infrastructure projects such as Northlink Stage 2 and the Stadium Rail Project.”

According to Mr. Monaci, Mr. Welfare brings more than 20 years’ construction experience to the General Manager role.

“Mr. Welfare’s leadership experience includes the successful delivery of major public infrastructure road and rail projects, along with extensive experience working for blue chip clients such as BHP Billiton, Chevron, Rio Tinto and Alcoa,” Mr. Monaci said.

“Mr. Welfare holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the University of Western Australia and has also worked on some of WA’s biggest mining projects such as Jimblebar, Yandi and Cape Lambert.”

Mr. Welfare will commence the role in early July.
