A new state-of-the-art maternity and paediatric private health facility dedicated to the well- being and healthcare of families in South West Sydney will be built in Gregory Hills and will open its doors in mid-2023. Construction will start in September 2021.

Acurio Health plans to build The George Centre, a $100 million healthcare facility to help meet the needs of Camden and Campbelltown’s rapidly growing population.

It comes off the back of an announcement by ASX-listed Home Consortium’s HealthCo arm about the joint venture with Acurio to develop The George Centre as phase one of a three phase, $500-million-plus integrated health and innovation precinct.

The George Centre will complement existing services to help meet the family healthcare needs of Camden, Campbelltown and the surrounding community and be the first private paediatric- focused healthcare facility in New South Wales.

“There is a strong need for additional healthcare facilities in the area, particularly a dedicated inpatient paediatric service. We are building the largest private maternity and paediatric hospital in Sydney to ensure the community has access to exceptional care,” Acurio founder and Medical Director A/Prof Andrew Chang said.

Peter Sidgreaves, Member for Camden said the facility will help to support the medical capacity f the area.

“Almost 20, per cent of babies in our state are born in South West Sydney. The Camden LGA has the fastest population growth in New South Wales,” he said.

“Over the next ten years, the Macarthur region’s growth is forecast to grow by 27 per cent – making it almost the size of Canberra’s population. I welcome Acurio’s investment to provide additional services to compliment the public healthcare services within our community.”

Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said she was looking forward to welcoming The George Centre to the Camden community.

“Camden is one of the fastest growing local government areas in country, welcoming more than 100 new residents every week. Many of these new residents are young families, and it’s incredibly important that they have high quality services close to home,” she said.

“An increase in local medical services and facilities, was identified as a priority by local children and families and helped inform Camden’s Children and Families Strategy. The George Centre is a step in the right direction for our fantastic area and I look forward to seeing this new medical facility come to fruition.”

A/Prof Chang said the hospital will attract specialist doctors, allied health professionals and other clinicians. He pointed out that currently half of Camden region residents seeking health services, particularly paediatric and maternity, must travel outside the region.

“By bringing these services together, The George Centre will reduce the burden of travelling long distances for specialist care,” he said.

“Providing the best patient experience is the key focus of The George Centre – it will offer a truly patient-centric approach.”

The George Centre will have 78 beds, including 57 overnight inpatient beds, across dedicated paediatric, adolescent and maternity wards, a dedicated day surgery centre and five operating theatres.

Acurio Health operates clinics, hospitals and research centres across greater Sydney. The Group designs, develops and delivers health and research facilities and services from Sydney’s CBD through to the Greater West.
