Round seven of the New South Wales Government’s Community Road Safety Grants program are now open, with local community groups able to have a say on road safety initiatives.
Community grants aim to create opportunities which allow community organisations to develop road safety projects in their local areas in partnership with other groups, encourage safer road user behaviour and reduce road trauma, deaths and serious injuries on local roads.
Grants of up to $5000 are available for road safety projects that involve community engagement. These projects should improve road safety awareness in local communities.
Larger grants of up to $30,000 are also available. Detailed project plans will need to be provided for these grants, showing expenditure, project stages and time frames.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said the NSW Government has invested nearly $2 million from the Community Road Safety Fund for this program over the last six years.
“Community Road Safety Grants allow local people who know their roads and travel them every day to implement projects and programs that can have a positive impact on their communities,” Toole said.
Minister for Transport and Roads Rob Stokes said the Community Road Safety Grants program allows locals and not-for-profit organisations across NSW to deliver local safety projects.
“Community Road Safety Grants provide an opportunity for local road safety projects, big or small, to make a real difference and I would encourage anyone with ideas to apply,” Stokes said.
Applications for round seven are now open with community groups invited to submit ideas for local road safety projects by 15 December.
163 projects have been delivered across the state including 26 projects in the last financial year.
