Hundreds of local jobs, along with 1500 homes are set to be secured as part of the Oakden development in metropolitan Adelaide.

The 52-hectare site will support an average of 320 jobs annually during the first two years of construction. This is planned to begin in 2022, with 400 jobs expected to be supported in 2024-25.

The project is being delivered through a partnership between the South Australian Government and Villawood Properties.

The site is located nine kilometres from Adelaide’s CBD and will feature a central play space, central lake, community club and natural reserve, as well as a retail centre.

South Australian Premier Steven Marshall said the development will provide employment and new community options for prospective homeowners.

“This development at Oakden is expected to contribute in the order of $460 million in Gross State Product during its construction, peaking at $60 million in 2024-25,” he said. “It is a significant development that will deliver a fantastic new community with more quality options for South Australian homebuyers while at the same time creating hundreds of jobs.”

Villawood CEO Alan Miller said Villawood Properties would utilise its 30 years of experience in Victoria and Queensland to help deliver the development.

“The development will include one of Villawood’s signature community clubs, with a gym, pool, meeting rooms and community spaces to provide physical infrastructure to build a strong community,” Miller said.

Teachers, healthcare professionals and emergency services personnel may be eligible for discounts of up to $20,000 when purchasing homes in the development as part of a Care Worker Program.
