Former Mayor of Vincent John Carey will assist Western Australia Minister for Transport, Planning and Lands Rita Saffioti as Parliamentary Secretary.
Mr. Carey will assist Ms. Saffioti with the broad duties within the Minister’s portfolios, which include key policy areas such as strata title reform and planning for communities, after being sworn in this month.
Mr Carey’s latest appointment will be in addition to his existing role as Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier; Minister for Public Sector Management; State Development, Jobs and Trade; Federal-State Relations.
“As the former Mayor of Vincent, Mr Carey has a strong understanding of the practicalities of the WA planning system and its effect on residents and businesses. He built a reputation as a consultative, forward-thinking leader who made a real difference in his community,” said Ms Saffioti in a statement.
“This strong record as Mayor, along with his work to establish town teams in Perth such as the Beaufort Street Network, will serve him well as Parliamentary Secretary in these portfolios.
“Mr Carey has a history of creating vibrant and economically active town centres and main streets – something we are keen to pursue across Western Australia.”
