NSW appoints new Point to Point Commissioner

The NSW Government has appointed Anthony Wise as the new Point to Point Transport Commissioner, replacing inaugural commissioner Barbara Wise.

Ms. Wise has occupied the role since its inception in October 2016 and will be replaced by Mr. Wing 1 July 2019.

The Point to Point Transport Commissioner administers legislation relating to taxis and hire vehicles, including ride share, and is responsible for authorisation and licencing schemes and recommending safety and standards for passenger and booking services.

Roads Minster Andrew Constance said NSW was one of the first government’s in Australia to reform the point to point transport industry and allow rideshare companies to operate legally.

“The government’s legalisation of ridesharing in NSW in December 2015, and other point to point transport reforms, has delivered greater choice and flexibility for customers,” Mr. Constance said.

“The modernisation of the regulatory framework for point to point transport has seen customers throughout NSW benefit from a greater number of transport options, and has freed the industry from unnecessary red tape, allowing them to innovate and offer more flexible services.”

According to Mr. Constance, Mr. Wing brings significant experience in transport policy to the role, having previously held senior positions at Transport NSW.

“As a proven regulator with deep experience in transport reforms, I am delighted Mr. Wing has accepted the role of Point to Point Transport Commissioner,” Mr. Constance said.

“During his time at Transport NSW, Mr. Wing played a leading role in helping the NSW Government reduce red tape by reforming the laws and regulation applying to drivers and vehicles, including point to point transport services.”

Mr. Wing previously served as the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s General Manager, where he was responsible for customer prices, transport competition and access.

Transport Minister Paul Toole has thanked Ms. Wise for her contribution to the transport sector.

“Ms. Wise has made an exceptional contribution to the modernisation of transport service delivery in NSW. Through her leadership, the NSW Government has been supporting the transition of the industry into the 21st century,” Mr. Toole.

“I am delighted her expertise will be retained by Transport NSW in a new role supporting regional transport outcomes, a position where I have no doubt she will continue to excel.”
