On-demand buses hit the road in South Australia

The first busses for South Australia’s on-demand bus trials have hit the road in Mount Barker and the Barossa.

The on-demand public transport service will work similarly to ridesharing apps. This will enable a passenger to order a bus, when and where needed, to take them anywhere within a service area.

The ‘Keoride’ app is available in the App Store or Google Play Store and the trial, which is now underway, will last for six months.

Acting Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government David Speirs said the government is working to deliver better public transport services, spending almost a billion dollars on new public transport infrastructure.

“We are electrifying the Gawler line, extending the Tonsley rail line to the Flinders education and medical precinct and building Park n Rides along the O-Bahn,” Mr. Speirs said.

The state government hopes people familiar with ridesharing apps will easily understand this technology.

“Passengers will be able to track the wait time and bus location in real-time on the app and get picked up from their home or within 60-130 metres from their location,” Mr. Speirs said.

There will be four buses in Mt Barker and five buses in the Barossa Valley providing trips in the designated service areas for the trial period.
