A $66 million upgrade of Manns road between West Gosford and Narara in New South Wales is progressing ahead, with detailed designs now nearly completed.

The project, jointly funded by the Australian and New South Wales Governments, will see road improvements on a three-kilometre section of Manns Road, which connects the Central Coast Highway to the industrial area of West Gosford and Pacific Highway at Narara.

last week, Federal Member for Robertson Lucy Wicks said detailed design works for the project were nearing completion, after the New South Wales Government invested $2.7 million in 2019/20 for an investigation on the project.

The full proposal includes widening the road to provide two lanes in each direction, installing a central median and traffic lights at some locations. The existing bridge over the creek near the intersection of Manns Road and Nells Road is also proposed to be replaced.

In recognition of the complexity and size of this proposal, Roads and Maritime has decided to develop the proposal in stages, with the first stage involving intersection and approach upgrades on Manns Road at Stockyard Place, West Gosford and Manns Road at Narara Creek Road, Narara.

“This work will ensure safer journeys and reduced travel times for the 20,000 motorists who use this stretch of road each day,” Ms Wicks said.

The section has a history of crashes mainly near intersections and driveways. West Gosford is undergoing light industrial and commercial redevelopment and traffic volumes are forecast to increase to about 27,500 vehicles per day by 2039.

“Improving these intersections now accommodates for the future infrastructure needs of our region and ensures local drivers and the wider community can get around safely,” Ms Wicks added.

As part of the planning process, Transport for NSW is now consulting with business owners about proposed changes to parking in Stockyard Place which will make it easier for heavy vehicles to turn around.

The upgrade forms part of ongoing planning and upgrading of Manns Road and the Pacific Highway and would complement the recently completed Central Coast Highway, Brisbane Water Drive and Manns Road intersection upgrade.

Construction for the project is expected to begin in early 2023.
