Piling is complete for a new road bridge over the Werribee train line in Altona, Victoria, marking a significant milestone in works to remove the Maidstone Street level crossing.
The 140-tonne piling rig has drilled 23 holes up to nine metres deep and 1.5 metres wide.
Each of these holes has been filled with a reinforced steel cage and concrete, which will form part of the new bridge’s foundation.

Construction crews will continue relocating underground services and building the bridge foundations over the coming months, in order to prepare for the bridge beams to be lifted later in the year.
Removing the Maidstone Street level crossing will aim to create better connections for this growing industrial area and make travel safer for more than 14,400 vehicles that use the crossing each day, as well as for pedestrians and cyclists.
The Maidstone Street level crossing will be fully decommissioned in 2027.
