Proposed Toowoomba North South Transport Corridor scrapped

Proposed Toowoomba North South Transport Corridor scrapped

The Queensland Government has scrapped the proposed Toowoomba North South Transport Corridor following backlash from the public during a three-month community consultation process.

Most of the proposed transport corridor has been scrapped based on extensive public opposition to the proposed route.

Currently the only section that will proceed to corridor protection is the Charlton Bypass. This will occur after some refinements to reflect land use changes and community feedback in the area.

As part of the Toowoomba North South Transport Corridor planning and consultation process, TMR has engaged with key stakeholders, Toowoomba Regional Council, elected representatives, industry, property owners along the proposed corridor, residents living just outside the corridor, first nation representatives and the greater Toowoomba community. 4000 responses and submissions were received during the community consultation period.

The proposed transport corridor aimed to increase safety, improve access and increase the transport infrastructure capacity of the connection, while also maintaining the efficiency of the New England Highway.
