The new southbound lanes and Norris Creek bridge are now open for motorists, as construction nears completion on the $75 million Mount Lindesay Highway upgrade in Queensland.
The section of the Mount Lindesay Highway between Stoney Camp Road and Chambers Flat Road at Munruben, forms part of the Mount Lindesay Highway Upgrade Program.
The project will outlines a package of works to expand the highway from two to four lanes, build new northbound and southbound bridges across Norris Creek, install safety upgrades and improve fauna connectivity and protection.
The works will aim to increase the capacity, traffic flow, safety and travel times on the connection, while also contributing to regional growth.
This investment is estimated to support an average of 80 direct jobs over the life of the project.
Queensland Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the works provided more than 9000 apprentice and trainee training hours, exceeding the project’s initial commitment by 285 per cent.
“The project has placed more than 22,500 tonnes of asphalt, 9000 square metres of foamed bitumen and 12 kilometres of guardrail across the upgrade to date,” Bailey said.
“What’s better is the level of training and upskilling that continues to be delivered by this project – that’s opportunities for locals that otherwise wouldn’t exist.”
The $75 million Mount Lindesay Highway Stoney Camp Road to Chambers Flat Road upgrade is jointly funded on a 50:50 basis between the Australian and Queensland governments and is scheduled for completion in late 2022.
