Queensland University of Technology researchers have discovered and developed a material that could create cheap, stable, highly efficient and cost effective solar panels.
Queensland Energy Minister Anthony Lynham said the state leads the way with rooftop solar, with a number of solar projects operational and in development.
“Professor Prashant Sonar and his team may well have made the breakthrough that will make future solar panels affordable for more and more Queenslanders,” Dr Lynham said.
“Affordability is one of the goals of the Palaszczuk Government – to make solar more accessible.”
The Queensland Government launched the interest free solar system loans package and announced the tender for supplies for battery storage.
The research also has the potential to commercialise the product as a printable solar material that could be used in blinds, shades or even clothes.
