Level crossing removal designs at Old Geelong Road in Hoppers Crossing and Werribee Street in Werribee have been confirmed.

The $355.5 million package for the two level crossing removals will see a road bridge built near the Old Geelong Road level crossing and a new rail bridge over the Werribee Street level crossing.

In Hoppers Crossing the road bridge will be built closer to the city. The Old Geelong Road crossing will be closed and replaced with a pedestrian overpass.

A rail bridge will be built at Werribee Street to cater to the existing freight route and future passenger growth. A temporary track will be built during construction to ensure freight services can continue to run.

Raising the rail line between Werribee Racecourse and Werribee River will create a new open space with discussions underway now to finalise its function.

In partnership with the Level Crossing Removal Project, an alliance of McConnell Dowell, Arup, Mott MacDonald and Metro Trains Melbourne has been awarded the contract to deliver this work.

This alliance has already successfully removed three level crossings across Melbourne, most recently completing a new road bridge in Laverton to remove the Aviation Road level crossing.
