Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said the works would be carried out about eight kilometres north of Bendemeer, between Gunnalong and Rocky Gully roads.
“These safety upgrades are ensuring a smoother journey for motorists, and by building the infrastructure that prevents crashes, we are saving lives,” he said.
“Work will include vegetation control and drainage improvements to help better maintain the road, along with the installation of new safety barriers.
“We’ll also see shoulder widening and wide centreline treatment, which increases the separation distance between oncoming vehicles, reducing the risk of head-on collisions.”
Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Sam Farraway said the $4.08 million upgrade came as part of the New South Wales Government’s Safer Roads Program.
“One life lost on our roads is one too many, which is why the New South Wales Government is working hard to improve safety for all road users,” he said.
“The New England Highway is an important link in our road network for residents, local industries and tourism, and this upgrade will ensure a safer drive for all road users.”
Traffic control, single lane closures, and a reduced speed limit of 40 kilometres per hour will be in place during work hours.
Works will be carried out between 6am and 6pm weekdays and Saturdays, weather permitting.
