Innovative and sustainable kerb separators are being installed as part of larger works on the St Kilda Bike Lanes project in Victoria.
The $30 million project aims to make St Kilda Road safer by separating drivers and cyclists through the development of new bike lanes. The separators also aim to encourage more people to take up cycling.
The separators are being manufactured at a carbon-neutral facility in Melbourne and contain up to 80 per cent recycled glass from landfill and 10 per cent calcium carbonate. The separators are being manufactured by contractor Orca Civil Products.

The separators also complement the Victorian Government’s Recycled First Policy and closely resemble the existing bluestone kerbing, as part of the State Government’s efforts to maintain the “historic fabric” of the road.
Works on the project began in September 2022 and are expected to be completed in late 2023.
