Consultation is now open for Hobart’s Northern Access Road in Tasmania.
The planned road is expected to act as a key infrastructure corridor which will support future transport connectivity to the Macquarie Point Development Precinct once constructed.
Draft concept designs propose the new road extending from the Tasman Highway/McVilly Driver interchange and curving around the north-eastern edge of the city’s Cenotaph.
The new northern entry into the Port of Hobart will also ease the pressure on the surrounding road network.

According to State Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Kerry Vincent, the project is critical in supporting the Port of Hobart and the future of the Macquarie Point Precinct.
“The Northern Access Road delivers a new northern entry point to the Port of Hobart and the future Antarctic precinct, as well as paving the way to deliver our stadium,” he said.
“Importantly, the design includes a dedicated bus plaza to enable public transport operations during major events, ensuring they run smoothly.
“The project team is currently engaging with key stakeholders to understand existing site uses, understand their concerns and look at ways to minimise impacts and improve serviceability.”
Kerry stressed that input from the broader Hobart community would play a vital role in shaping the detailed design phase.
“We are delivering for Tasmania by investing in projects like the Northern Access Road,” he said.
