BGC Contracting Pty Ltd has been awarded the tender for work to replace the Burrill Lake Bridge on the Princess Highway just south of Ulladulla in New South Wales.
Member for South Coast, Shelley Hancock MP made the announcement in January.
“Roads and Maritime Services has been progressing plans to replace the crossing which is part of the most important transport corridor along the south coast of New South Wales,” she said.
“A new 290-metre bridge will be built across Burrill Lake on a new alignment to the east of the existing crossing.
“A number of businesses tendered for the project, which also includes roundabouts at either end of the new bridge to improve local road connectivity and a pedestrian and cycle path across the bridge which will link to the Ulladulla cycleway.”
The contractor will also remove the existing crossing once the new bridge is open to traffic and build a southern foreshore park.
Mrs. Hancock says the project is expected to cost about $58 million and will provide significant benefits to the community.
“The new bridge will have a higher elevation to reduce the impact of flooding on the road and the new intersections will meet modern safety standards,” said Mrs. Hancock.
“By upgrading the Burrill Lake Bridge now, Roads and Maritime is also delivering future maintenance cost efficiencies.”
Early work including utilities relocation has finished and major building work began in late February.
