The Brisbane Airport Corporation has awarded the airfield works contract to construct Brisbane Airport’s new $400 million New Parallel Runway.
A CPB Contractors and BMD Constructions joint venture will undertake the project.
The airfield works contract incudes construction of a 3.3km main runway and 12km taxiway system, as well as airfield infrastructure such as navigational aids, lighting, utilities, signage, operations roads, drainage and landscaping, security fencing and control systems.
The airfield works contract is the final contract for the project.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the coming weeks with the runway expected to be operational by 2020.
Brisbane Airport estimates the new runway will increase the number of flights each year from 227,000 to 360,000 by 2035, and up to half a million by 2045.
