The Tasmanian Government is calling for tenders for phase one of road works at the Hobart Airport roundabout, aimed at improving traffic flow for Midway Point, Sorrell and the Southern Beaches.
The project involves works along the Tasman Highway at the Holyman Avenue roundabout, including construction of a second lane, improvements to the entry and exit points and removal of the merge on the approach to the roundabout from Hobart.
According to Tasmanian Minister for Infrastructure Jeremy Rockliff, the immediate improvements to the roundabout will help combat queues and travel delays, while planning and design for the new Hobart Airport interchange is under way.
He said the upgrades and the interchange will complement other projects being undertaken on the Hobart to Sorrell corridor, including replacements of the Midway Point roundabout and planning for duplication of the Tasman Highway between the airport and Sorrell.
