Two new stations delivered in Melbourne’s north-east

One of the first trains at the new Greensborough Station.

New stations are set to open at Greensborough and Montmorency, north-east Melbourne, following final testing on May 1, 2023.

The new duplicated track means more trains will run on the Hurstbridge Line, including an extra 25 services every week in peak times and another 15 extra services off-peak to provide passengers more travel options.

The Montmorency and Greensborough stations are expected to offer better weather protection, safer connections to the surrounding area and access for people of all abilities.

Platform Two at Diamond Creek Station was also upgraded during the six-week construction blitz, along with a new signalised pedestrian crossing behind Diamond Valley College, set to make trips to school safer for students.

A new walking and cycling path are also set to be built between Montmorency and Greensborough stations by the end of the year, connecting to the Plenty River Trail with a new pedestrian crossing.

Works are also underway on a new 100 space multi-deck car park and bus interchange at Greensborough station, set to open by late 2024. It will feature accessible car spaces and improved CCTV and lighting.

Member for Bundoora, Colin Brooks, said the works are helping keep up with a growing population.

“The Hurstbridge Line Duplication brings massive benefits to Melbourne’s rapidly growing north-east, delivering more train services and less crowding on peak services, as well as brand new modern stations,” he said.

More than $20 billion is being invested in Melbourne’s north-east to improve the transport network, including North East Link, the Hurstbridge Line upgrade, and the recently completed Fitzsimons Lane upgrade – all set to improve safety, unclog traffic congestion and increase the capacity of Melbourne’s train network.
