VIC Gov invest $2.2B into suburban roads

The Victorian Government has announced a $120 million package of works for upgrades to three key projects along the busy road.

The Victorian Government has announced it will make the biggest investment into suburban roads in Victoria’s history.

The Victorian Budget 2018/19 will include a $2.2 Billion to upgrade 13 arterial roads across the northern and south-eastern suburbs, with a more than $14.9 billion pipeline of major road projects. The Victorian Government has announced it will make the biggest investment into suburban roads in Victoria’s history.

More than $1 billion will be spent to widen and improve safety on roads in the northern suburbs such as Sunbury Road, Craigieburn Road, Epping Road and Childs Road.

Bridge Inn Road in Doreen will also be upgraded as the Northern Roads Upgrade during stage two of the Yan Yean Road duplication.

The South Eastern Roads Upgrade will aim to improve roads including Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road in Pakenham, Lathams Road in Carrum Downs, Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road in Cranbourne and Pound Road West in Dandenong South.

The Victorian Government said the upgrades will be delivered within five years and will be overseen by a new dedicated authority, the Major Road Projects Authority.

The upgrades aim to reduce congestion and travel times, improve safety and connect communities across the western, outer-norther and south eastern suburbs.

“We’d all rather spend more time with family and friends than stuck in traffic – that’s why we’re fixing the suburban roads people rely on every day,” Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said.

“This will slash travel times, improve connections between our fastest growing communities and give local roads back to local residents.”

Victorian Minister for Roads and Road Safety Luke Donnellan said this is the biggest investment in suburban roads in Victoria’s history, to fix local roads and get people home sooner.

“With work already underway on the Western Roads Upgrade, now drivers across the city – from Werribee to Pakenham, from Doreen to Dingley –  will have better roads to get home sooner,” he said.
