Major works have kicked off in Truganina to build the new Hopkins Road bridge, as part of the Victorian Government’s Level Crossing Removal Project to remove 110 dangerous and congested level crossings.
The Hopkins Road level crossing removal will separate trains from vehicles by building a new road bridge over the rail line.
Removing the level crossing at Hopkins Road, Truganina will ease congestion and allow better access for trucks travelling to and from the growing industrial centre and the Western Highway.
A 65-tonne piling rig has begun digging bridge foundations on the north side of the rail line, following a five-day preparatory track work construction blitz in Melton and Truganina last week.

The piling rig will dig 48 holes up to nine meters deep as part of the foundations for the new road bridge.
In total, the project will remove seven level crossings between the city and Melton and build a brand-new Melton Station, which will have four platforms to provide dedicated platforms for trains starting and terminating at Melton, while also accommodating Ballarat services.
When the project is complete, new rail bridges will take trains over Coburns and Exford roads, and new road bridges will be built over Ferris Road in Melton and Hopkins Road in Truganina.
The level crossings at Coburns Road, Exford Road and Ferris Road in Melton and Hopkins Road, Truganina are set to be removed by 2028.
