Construction has commenced and is ramping up on the Benalla railway station and surrounding works in northeast Victoria, which will support the safe passage of double-stacked freight trains through the town.
The Benalla works will also include a major renovation of the station precinct, the relocation of the east track to become a new west track, a new station platform and improved accessibility with a new pedestrian underpass, pathways, lifts, open forecourt and car park.
With construction now underway, works have officially started on all eight Inland Rail Beveridge to Albury Tranche Two sites including Broadford, Wandong, Hume Freeway – Seymour and Tallarook, Euroa and Benalla.

The Inland Rail Beveridge to Albury (B2A) project is the Victorian portion of the program undertaken along 262 kilometres of existing northeast rail corridor between Beveridge and Albury.
The Tranche Two project involves the construction of four new higher bridges, a new vehicle underpass, lowering of track and station modifications, with all works helping to allow safe passage of double-stacked freight trains.
All up, the Inland Rail is a 1600-kilometre freight rail line that will connect Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. It aims to provide improved connections for producers, manufacturers and businesses to national and global markets.
